Ventura
(officially the City of San Buenaventura; commonly called San Buenaventura before 1891), or Shisholop in Chumash was incorporated in 1866 and has a population of 106,433.

The highlight of Ventura is downtown area which is very active and filled with shops and restaurants on Main Street. There you will also find the landmark Mission San Buemaventura with its 1809 church.

The other draw to Ventura is of course its beaches and the Ventura Harbor area. It has many beautiful beaches, like San Buenaventura State Beach, with long, wooden Ventura Pier. Surfer's Point is popular for surfing and windsurfing. Boats depart Ventura Harbor for Channel Islands National Park, a habitat for rare island foxes and scrub jays

It is also home to Ventura Junior College, a 2 year public community college on 112 acres.
